      The territory that nowadays is known as Magdalena de Kino was originally occupied by Papagos and Pimas Altos. Indigenous tribes that mainly live in the border region of the United States and Mexico.

       With the purpose of evangelize the native tribes, arrives to this land a Jesuit missionary of Italian origin named Eusebio Francisco Kino, who founded in 1688 the mission of Santa María Magdalena de Buquivaba. The missionary traveled the whole Sonoran land to spread his thoughts and ideologies, during his way left monuments, traditions, and a rich gastronomy. The mission of Santa María Magdalena de Buquivaba received on October 1st of 1923 the status of City and in 1966 obtained the name of Magdalena de Kino, which is still in usage today.
